About Us

Dolyn Developments Inc. was formed in 1988 and formally incorporated in January 1989. It is owned solely by its operators Douglas and Lynne Burnside and has been since its inception.

Dolyn has endured over both the weak and strong market conditions and has always maintained excellent financial strength and delivery of quality projects.

Douglas Burnside, President of Dolyn Developments Inc., is a two-time President of the General Contractors Association of Ottawa. He has served on the board for over 11 years and continues to act behind the scenes to foster equitable practices and to work with large ownership groups for continued improvement in these regards.

Dolyn is an established Design Builder with nearly half of its larger projects being procured through a Design Build Process whereby Dolyn is retained prior to the retention of the design consultants. Our clients have found this brings about a project in keeping with their budget range, more rapidly and cost effectively. This is often through the employment of the Construction Management Procurement Method which allows owners to more accurately understand the project costs and to effect measures to mitigate or re-allocate them.

General contracting remains a strong and active part of our business showing our keen understanding of new projects and our ability to competitively estimate and win. We are on numerous Invited Bidders Lists including those for Algonquin College, Carleton University, Ottawa University, the Ottawa Carleton District School Board, Sears Canada, TD Bank Financial Group, and Shoppers Drug Mart, to name a few.

Dolyn has undertaken a large amount of heritage-related projects and is in good standing with the Heritage Groups and stakeholders. Dolyn has strong knowledge of protocol with respect to heritage works and has participated in numerous exciting heritage renovation projects.
